We have a client for whom I'd like to use a xAP solution.
The client wants, in each of four rooms, a wall-mounted "small
panel"
from which he can control music in that room. Not only selecting from a
list of MP3s, but also selecting which source (several whole house feeds
from things like 2 off, Sky boxes, radio, etc.)
All of this is relatively straightforward to implement by a VFD panel
and a set of networked inputs on a NetIOM / HomeVision / webbrick, all
of which would lend themselves to a xAP solution. Writing a menuing
system to display on such a panel that sends out xAP messages at the
appropriate time is, again, not overly tricky.
What I have, today, with my Rios, is a solution that would allow passing
of Audio transport messages over xAP, but not audio selection. I
personally have neither a SliMP3 nor an exstreamer to play with, so
can't tell whether they could do everything I need. One, obvious,
solution is to mount a SliMP3 in the wall, using _that_ as the
display... but that's not ideal from an audio signal perspective, since
I'd need to route sound back from each Slim to the amps at line level,
concealed.
