Here's the latest version of the spec - I can't think of a good reason why
this should not be released more widely now. I'll have it posted in the
appropriate places.

The GUI configuration application hasn't had much work done on it for a
while and I think it's not even up to date with the schema anymore - not
sure the X10 connector is for that matter. I've not had time to do any
coding for a couple of months due to re-wiring activities (Dynalite
install)
and I've forgotten where some of this stuff is at. The GUI allows for the
management of associations and groups. Screenshot included. Might get time
to dust it down this weekend (high degree of optimism).

Quick answers (need to get to the station)

One was released for comment, some implementations done, and no significant
feedback since then.
My X10 connector supports it and I also have (unreleased) an alpha of a GUI
drag and drop associations management tool.
