Linux Development Request

Hi all,

Can I request that anyone developing applications for linux, me soon I
hope,
use a folder of /xpl for persistent storage, please.

The reason being that diskless nodes will need a folder for persistent
storage, and having a common folder will allow xpl linux applications to
run
on both standard and diskless nodes without modification.

I would suggest we use a structure like this

/xpl/<vendor>/<application>

E.g.
/xpl/tonyt/tts
/xpl/wintermute/mplayer

It will also make finding the data folders for all the applications a lot
easier, rather than having everyone storing stuff in different areas.

Also, could applications be installed somewhere in /usr

The reason is that for diskless nodes, that can boot from any os
(linux/windows etc) the best layout appears to be
A) initial linux boot delivered via tftp
B) ram disk based file system delivered via tfpt
C) /usr as a read-only nfs mount, shared
D) /xpl as a read-write nfs mount, one per node

When I start development of my xpl linux app's they will be distributed as
both source code (for building on any linux pc) and as a binary for the
current version of the diskless node.
