OK. And are we going to go with the human-readable date format that was
mentioned in my earlier post?
(going human-readable seems to be the preference of others)

I.e.

Yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss

This is fixed length, so shouldn't be too difficult for you to parse.

This would make our chosen format for each line of the file:

<port>,<interval>,<yyyy-mm-dd
hh:mm:ss><cr><lf>
