I just thought I'd drop my two-penneth in on IR headphones...
We have a (reasonably expensive) pair at home which can be best be
described as reasonable. They produce stereo output but tend to have
quite a high degree of background hiss. We use them when only one person
wants to watch the TV. Particular problems include the fact that they
need line of sight, and don't work at all if you sit in direct sunlight.
They also seem to have the ability to pick up Virgin AM when you plug
the audio in to the wrong lead which my wife was quite pleased about!
