Why do YOU wnat to convert S-Video into RGB when the TV will do that anyway. There is nothing to be gained from converting UP to a higher video standard as the fact that it originated as something less means it will never be the same again.

 

You can convert MP3 back to WAV but it will never be the the same as the CD it originated from.

Why would I need RGB to S-video converter. AV amp's output is already S-video and that should connect to SCART.

My question was whether to convert S-video into RGB (if it's possible) and use SCART AV1 or to keep signal as S-video and connect it to SCART AV2.

I understood that RGB signal is better quality, but I don't know if any quality can be gained by converting S-video into RGB, because you cannot get better quality then the source signal itself.

Is that right, and I should just keep it S-video -> S-video.

At the moment, I have DVD, video etc. connected to TV's scarts directly. Sound is connected to apm. Now it makes a big confusion, because you need to use a few remotes to chose appropriate, sound and video source...

So, I decided to connect all those devices into AV amplifier and do the switching there, so I'll need only one remote.

I have 3 SCART connectors on the back of the TV (Sony 32"), but only one capable of receiving RGB.

See www.rgbtosvideo.com for details of a convertor from RGB to S-Video (Y/C).  Since most AV amps switch in the S-Video and/or composite video domain (not RGB), this would be the best thing.

 

A scart socket can carry RGB, composite and S-Video - though not all at once.  Obviously your AV scart on the back of your TV will have to support S-Video (AV1 usually is RGB [plus composite] and AV2 and above will usually be S-Video capable depending on your model)

 

Confusing?  Thank the designers of the stupid scart socket - great idea in principle, poorly executed. (Cue Phil)
