Most cat5 is the same as 5e. I dont believe that 5e is a actual spec
(Wasnt when I looked last time - was just marketing hoopla)
Anyway, gigabit works on cat5, but at lower distances then 100baseT.
Before gigabit is pushed you will have had the walls open again
installing plasma conduits to run your transporter system or something.
(Or moved house)
