If you look at the pictures showing how I have constructed it

I have put the electronics in a 9 way to RJ45 enclosure, that way the IR
part can plug into a cat 5 outlet (in line of sight of IR remote) and the
other end will go to a cat 5 outlet and then with a patch lead into your PC,
the PC may be in another room. I have not done any testing on the distance
yet but hope to make up a huge extension for test purposes shortly.
