are free products out there which offer effective protection against script
borne threats.

At the moment I am remotely connected
using Windows NT terminal services to two machines. One over a wireless LAN
and
one over an ADSL link via a VPN. Why would I want it to work over a wet
piece
of string? I’ve been involved in the dark ages of computing –
my first
ever computer was an RML 380Z, I too have used TeX on a VAX 11/780, when
“graphics”
screens were addressed in the same way as laser printers, and it would take
in
the order of 30 seconds to render a “page” on a CRT monitor.
Things
have moved on, and just because you haven’t, don’t winge when
“we”
want to use html because it enriches “our” computing
experience.
The vast majority of the connected world use html capable mail clients, and
software which fills the coffers of the”evil Bill”. If you want
to
be part of that community, then it is time to find software which can
cope.
Don't get started on the Linux thing again.
