RE: TiVo - "forced" recording - the answers
This is very interesting, thanks Mark
I was actually discussing the merits of Tivo vs recordable DVD with a guy
in
the office this morning, he went off and found the article on the web.
(I was encouraging him towards Tivo, as they simply want to replace
their
VCR) and was surprised to see this article!!
Many Thanks
Daniel

Subject: [ukha_d] TiVo - "forced" recording - the answers
Just phoned customer services. The forced recording from last week
HAS been
deleted from everyone's system.
The content has been deleted because of customer complaints. HOWEVER,
the
complaints were mostly about the nature of the program, rather the way
it
was recorded. Being on the main menu the recording was accessible
by
ANYONE. Even though it was a post water-shed program this meant
the
parental controls were bypassed. Hard to believe they never thought
of that
before they did it!
The next interesting bit of info is that even if you were able to
delete
this program manually it would recover NO USER hard drive space.
These
suggestions are held on a reserved section of the disk outside the 40
hour
capacity. Apparently this reserved area also holds the old 1.5.2
version of
the software as well as a backup.
Also, if you had another program scheduled to record during the
"forced"
one, your one would be recorded instead.
The guy on the phone was very helpful....he said these new "added
features"
would be increasing so I asked about an Ad skip feature like Replay
TV. He
referred to Reply's "problems in the States" and doubted very
much if ad
skip would come to the UK anytime soon.
I asked him about hard drive upgrades. Again he was very open and
said
everyone does it. He recommended replacing the existing drive with
another
big one and keeping original on a shelf in case anything went wrong.
M.
