The only way to properly do this is with a spectrum analyser, pink
noise and a flat response microphone.   Your SPL meter will
quite possibly be inaccurate if you're listening to different
frequencies of tone seperately.  We have our dubbing theatres
lined up by Dolby every now & then, and though a Tandy SPL
meter is fine for quick level measurements (with pink noise), a
proper spectrum analyser is needed, with a microphone with a
very flat response, to adjust the eq.

Is  there pink noise on the test DVD? Perhaps a PC spectrum
analyser prog could be found too.  Dolby obviously use veh veh
expensive flash analysis equipment for this task.
