THANK YOU ALAN !!!!

I tried it in hyperterminal direct to com 2 and it has recorded every barcode thrown at it :-)

Are you aware of any generic driver which will enable the input to be put in excel cell.

If i could get 48 hour days I would write some code now....but it will have to wait on the TODO pile after i do extension drawings, build extension, keep SWMBO happy...cby catching up on outstanding work.

Run a terminal emulator to see what it's sending ( you may need to try several baud rates till you get the right one)

This type is more difficult to cater for than the keyboard wedge ones, you'll either need a special driver or cater for it in your code, the latter option is nicer because you don't need the focus to be on a specific field waiting for the barcode data to arrive.

With most of these things the manual has a load of barcodes in it for configuration of things like serial speed, barcode standards to recognise (2 of 5, codabar, 3 of 9 etc etc) and lead in and termination characters to send. Most of these tend to recommend disabling barcode standards that are not going to be used to increase reading accuracy, This is bad news for you if you can't get the manual and the last user had it configured solely for 3 of 9.

I purchased a barcode scanner from an ebay auction (my first win). It has no branding only a serial number, it operates through rs232 port and uses 9v external power. The scanner has a single button activation and (beeps and red light on back flashes when read barcode). The problem is I have no drivers or documents, etc. I thought it may read direct into excel, but doesn't... am I missing something...no obvious branding inside either...circuit board has ADA folowed by some numbers...means nothing to me.

Can anyone advise or give recommendations of where to get advice.

many thanks
Campbell
