Have a look at http://sproggy.mp3car.com/psu.html
- it's a dc-dc psu
based on the similar LM2587 flyback regulator. This also requires a
transformer. Sources for the transformer and some of the peculiar
inductors and caps are given on the page. It also provides 5v and 3.3v
switched regulators, using a couple of maxim chips.
The LM2587 and MAX787 are both available from Farnell (7 quid each!) but
I can't find a source for the MAX788 anywhere, so I'm kinda reliant on
the free-samples blag coming through :-(
