A quick experiment involving FreeBSD, Two 512k DSL connections, GetRight and Jon Fautley.
This showed that with the right software, the requests can be split into multiple connections to one host to effectively "line bond" the t= wo (or
more) connections into a useable one. If the getright type connection
filtering could be implemented at the server end, then bonding these
lines into something that shared the bandwidth out would be possible.

Just a thought

Scott

Yes, but :-)

There's a huge difference between downloading a complex web page with
LOTS of objects on it, and downloading a single large file (SP3,
anyone?)

Most big web servers are geared up to coping with loadbalancing LOTS
of requests across multiple webheads. Virtually no-one, however, will
support a single monolithic download coming from multiple difference
places (ie - multiple difference internet connections.)

Perhaps, however, mesh networks will bring the trend back to
providing big downloads as NOT archived!

Now, if someone could come up with a clever algorithm for reverse
load balancing?...

M.
