Epson and Canon both produce inkjets that can print directly to white
faced cd's...

The first reasonable price epson that did (about 2years ago??) the
stylus photo 900 sits by my desk and does a good job

Computer Video recently reviewed a couple of printers fromm Epson
that printed CD's, the big drawer back they saw with it, was the fact
that the ink is water based i.e such that if the disc gets wet the
printing will come off.

I have looked at the TDK printer which as far as I am aware uses
thermal transfer technology and is not succeptable to such issues.

At £60 I may well get one to try, has anyone beaten me to it??

Would that be the TDK one that prints two small areas only rather than
the full surface area?
