.....just sharing some personal experience (the on/off or on/tiny bit
on debate... well it wasn't a tiny bit last week ) but yes Phil, I
should refrain from "misinforming" the audience - for which I
apologise.
It's always good policy to kill the main breaker before attempting to
even unscrew the flimsiest wire in a backbox - you never now if it's
going to pop up out of the fitting or will stay in place....zapp -
ouch.
I guess in this case it would be an additonal security to unscrew the
light bulb. (no neutral at all flowing back to the backbox means you
can also not trip the ground leak switch by accidentally connecting
Live or Neutral to earth) depending of course if the Circuit breaker
only breaks the live or the live+neutral.
