I saw a similar thing in a bungalow in Tenterton (a friend of my inlaws
place) - worked well using fluorescents (and I normaly loathe fluorescent
lighting).

I've been toying with the idea of doing it in my bathroom too - something
like 4 x 5ft fittings tucked up above a "dropped" false ceiling
so that the
light comes indirectly down around the outside edge and then mount some
halogens in there too just to fill it out.

Just make sure you can still get your hand in to change the bulb / tube /
starter / transformer etc. when they go "phut"... ;-)
