RE: 300GB Hard Drives
I wouldn't touch Maxtor with a barge pole.
I have had over 5 Maxtor failures over the past years.
Seagate on the other hand have had zero failures and I have about 5 of them
on 24/7.
I recently changed to some Western Digital due to some people suggesting
that they were quieter at Storagereview.com.
To be honest I have found the Seagates quieter.
Seagate gets my vote - then comes Western Digital.

Seagate has always been my favourite, never had any problems.
Currently have 80G in mine and the wife's machines, and run a pair of
ST3300831A's on a Linksys slug as PC backup NAS.
Personal experiences, but I've had Maxtor failures and a friend of mine had
a
real nightmare with some last year. Others have good experiences!

What to go for?
I just can't make up my mind, I want 9 (8 way raid+ cold swap), also got to
be PATA. They are all within a quid or two. I wouldn't mention any
IBM/Hitachi drives after the numerous deaths that some of you had a few
years back.
I've checked StorageReview.com and can still not come to any clear
decisions-
Seagate ST3300831A 7200rpm 8mb cache - tests well in some places, my
preferred
Maxtor 6L300R0 Diamondmax 10 7200rpm 16mb cache
Maxtor 7L300R0 MaXLine III 7200rpm 8mb cache (=A310 more than the others)
Western Digital WD3000JB Caviar 7200rpm 8mb cache
I'm not interested in the 400's as the premium is too high.
What to do eh?
