The download speed is 20Mb/s, but the upload speed is only 768Kb/s. It
would probably make more sense to use something like MythTV, and then
ftp the recordings overnight.

Should be simple to do with a network connected IR extender. eg:

I was reading a satellite forum recently and saw mention of pointing a
satellite dish out of a window as an option for people who can't have a
dish outside...!
