Sorry I can't attest to the specific scenario you've illustrated, but
perhaps by way of comparison it might be informative to know that I'm
currently in the midst of converting some 600 odd DVD rips, in VIDEO_TS
folders (so .VOB files, basically) to MP4 using DVDFab converter with a
modified Apple TV profile. - I changed all settings to the highest quality
options available, so I'm doing 2-pass conversion.
I'm currently processing at well under an hour per DVD rip.. depending on
the source properties, some are done in as little as 25 minutes, some
taking
nearer 45 minutes. I'm queuing up around 20 DVDs per night to convert while
I sleep, and that is rarely taking longer than 12-15 hours.
My kit is a core i5 2500K running at the stock 3.3GHz, 12GB Ram, win 7 64
bit, system drive is an SSD, but both source and target for the conversion
is on a remote NAS which for the time being is only on a 100Mbit LAN
segment.

Hi all,
How long should it take Handbrake to convert a VOB file to an MP4 ? (with
iPhone/iPod Touch preset)
I was expecting in the region of 30-40 minutes, maybe an hour tops, but
current predictions are for over 5 hours to convert a 3.7GB DVD-quality
file.
I know my hardware is not the latest, but it's not *that* old either (or so
I thought...), i.e. 1.7 Ghz pentium M, 2GB ram, loads of spare disk space,
WinXP.
*Hours* per episode / film is not going to work, is there an alternative
converter that can run a bit (lot!) quicker?
