Re: Jabber jabbering too much

Hi James,

Thanks for the Switchboard pointer, that was going to be my next question -
why do I keep getting IM presence announcements popping up on my
Squeezeboxes!

Regarding the IM clients, my setup is basically one Jabber account
registered at jabber.org.uk, then an msn account registered against the MSN
transport for that Jabber account.

I've then added contacts to my Jabber profile for various MSN users. What
now happens is that anytime ANY contact goes offline, comes online etc I
get
messages like:

Instant Messenger Alert
martynwendon%domain.com@xxxxxxx is Away

sent to ALL the contacts that I've added. The message is FROM the msn user
that's registered against the Jabber account if you see what I mean.

If I exit xAP Jabber, then fire up Pandion which is using the same Jabber
account / contacts etc then I don't get the messages.

Hi,

xAP Jabber only sends it's presence when it connects and disconnects from
the Jabber server. It won't send presence between contacts on the roster,
but the sever might. When you say they are getting announced to all IM
clients, what exactly are you seeing? Is it a popup?
One thought, are you running Switchboard? If so what does it have in the
tosend_IM.txt file? Switchboard will run that file as contact change
status
so maybe that is where the messages are coming from. If you run Viewer and
lookout for display messages you should see the source of them.

I've just started using xAP Jabber and have it set up and working with
jabber.org.uk and the msn transport. Is there a way to stop it announcing
user movements on the IM side? By that I mean that the xap user.status
messages are fine, but every time a contact comes online, goes offline,
goes
busy, goes away, etc these events are getting announced to all IM clients.
Is there a setting that changes this behaviour?

Thanks,

Martyn
