xAP Application Development and Frameworks

I'm wanting to write some basic xAP applications - just to satisfy myself
that everything plays nicely on the network and to get a better
understanding of the protocol.
Can anyone provide any sample applications (with source) either working at
a
low-level with the protocol, or higher up with an xAP framework (preferably
xFx Framework for .NET 2.0)? Failing this, are there any particularly good
and succinct resources for getting started with xAP development? C#/.NET is
my preferred development platform, but anything written in/for Java would
be
fine too. Failing both of these, any well-commented code would be great!
