Steve,

Do you want random, as in completely random, or do you want no two tiles
next to each other the same colour, but without a uniform pattern?

If it's the former, simply mix all your tiles up in a big container, then
pull them out at random as you need them. Guarenteed randomness! :)

If it's the latter, you're going to need to divide the four sets of tiles
into four batchs of three colours each, each batch missing one of the
colours. ie:

[cream, yellow, green]
[cream, yellow, terracotta]
[cream, green, terracotta]
[yellow, green, terracotta]

If the tile you're butting up against is cream, pull one from the batch
with no cream, and you will get a random selection of one of the other
three colours.

You probably don't want to physically mix the tiles in reality, so either
do it with some other objects, like marbles with the colours written on
them, in which case you need only have three in each of the four
containers, returning them each time, or with a die, using the following
mapping:

If the current tile is:

terracotta: [ (16) = cream, (25) = yellow, (34) = green ]
green:	[ (16) = cream, (25) = yellow, (34) = terracotta ]
yellow:	[ (16) = cream, (25) = green, (34) = terracotta ]
cream:	[ (16) = yellow, (25) = green, (34) = terracotta ]

Hope that helps,

Matt.

Folks

Not HA but the kitchen needs tiling following rewiring so slightly linked.

Situation: SWMBO wants a combination of four 2" tiles (cream, yellow,
green
and terracotta) in a random pattern in the wall.

Problem: How to get a random looking pattern, I'm sure you can get a grid
or program to generate this sort of thing for you but can't find any
details. Anyone know or know where to look?

Cheers

Steve
