Just a thought on this, if you use adaptors people can see instantly
that that socket is being used by a phone and not a network item.

IIRC plugging a phone/network item into the same socket can damage
something? switch/hub? PBX?

Anyone?................

Sure - and I'm going to replace the RJ11 plugs on the phones with 
RJ45 - making it neater and not having to have the adapter.
