My ten year old daughter's got MSN on her PC, and also spends lots of
time playing Runescape which also has the ability to chat with other
players.
I think the key factor is education, we encourage our kids not to talk
to strangers so why should the online world be any different?
The rules I've laid down is that she's not allowed to email or chat with
anyone via msn anyone she doesn't know and she's also not to given out
her name, address etc. and it seems to work ok so far.
As far as MSNs concerned, you can restrict who's allowed to contact her
(so that it's just the people in her contacts list) via the privacy
settings in the option's dialog. (You can also do things like strip the
tabs etc off msn via the options too)
Oh the joys of having kids in the internet age!
