Suspect that the sort of interference they're talking about - presumably
RF noise from a dodgy switching power supply, or impulse noise from an
arcing contact - is unlikely to be detected by the average "mains
monitor" device, short of an oscilloscope or something.  An AM radio
might be more useful...
